After sixteen days of waiting, Milan should at least have reached a conclusion about who they want on the bench as head coach next season. The selection process has been won by Austrian manager Oliver Glasner, who has made an excellent impression on both owner Gerry Cardinale and the other figures within the Rossoneri ownership group. Before tying the knot with the former Crystal Palace coach, however, RedBird's American executive wants to fill the technical director position.
A two-year deal offered to Glasner by AC Milan:
Barring any sensational U-turns, Oliver Glasner is expected to become Milan's new head coach. This morning, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the Rossoneri club has already put forward a two-year contract offer with an option for a third year. It is the same proposal that was made to Allegri last year. Compared with the Livorno-born coach, who is set to join Napoli, the base salary offered this time is lower and more affordable. The Austrian coach is ready to arrive at Milanello regardless of the choice of technical director and is particularly eager to take over Milan's bench: he has turned down all other offers, especially the one from Feyenoord.
If the decision has essentially been made, what is Milan waiting for before putting everything in writing? According to today's report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, owner Gerry Cardinale wants to follow a precise sequence of steps. Before signing the new head coach, the appointment of the technical director must be finalised. Several names are being considered, but the reality is that the leading candidate is Ralf Rangnick, although contacts have become less frequent in recent days due to the Austrian national team's World Cup commitments involving the German coach and executive. Rangnick has already made his working conditions clear: it is now up to Milan to accept them and appoint him to lead this new project alongside a coach for whom he has great regard.
