Given what has been happening recently at Milan, it is always better to remain cautious, but this time perhaps it really is happening: the Devil indeed has its new head coach, who will be Ruben Amorim, who has reached an agreement with the club on Via Aldo Rossi on the basis of a two-year contract with an option for a third year at 3.5 million euros net per season plus bonuses linked to winning trophies and qualification for the Champions League. After his dismissal in January by Manchester United, it seemed the Portuguese coach would take a sabbatical year, but Milan’s offer, which is the club he has always dreamed of managing, proved too tempting, and so the former Sporting Lisbon boss is ready to return to the dugout.
Amorim in Italy today or tomorrow:
This is reported by 'A Bola', which adds another important detail: Amorim is expected in Italy between today and tomorrow to sign the contract and begin getting to know his new club and his new home. The Portuguese coach beat competition from several other managers, in particular Matthias Jaissle, the current Al Ahli coach, who would have needed to be released by paying a substantial compensation fee to the Saudi club. Amorim, however, is currently without a team, and this has certainly been in his favour.
Amorim dreams of coaching AC Milan:
One of the Portuguese coach’s dreams was precisely to manage Milan, as he explained in 2017 to the Portuguese outlet Tribuna Expresso, when he was about to begin his coaching career after hanging up his boots as a player: "As a child I liked watching Benfica and Milan. I remember watching Milan videos with Maldini, Baresi, Gullit, Rijkaard, Savićević… My childhood dreams were to play for Benfica and Milan. I achieved one of them. Now I must become a coach at the other."
