Ruben Amorim's Milan is beginning to take shape around a 3-4-2-1 system, but the coach still needs the right players to make it work. As is well known, a major sacrifice will be required to completely rebuild the attack. The priority remains Rafael Leao's sale for no less than €50 million, with the Portuguese winger currently at the centre of two separate transfer tracks leading to Istanbul. Only then will Milan be able to seriously pursue a replacement for their No. 10.
With Konstantinos Karetsas now seemingly destined for Borussia Dortmund (leaving plenty of regret over the missed opportunity due to poor timing) and Nicolò Zaniolo no longer a target following his contract renewal with Udinese, Milan's shortlist has narrowed to two very different profiles: Kerim Alajbegovic of Bayer Leverkusen and, as of today, Roma's Matias Soulé.
A fascinating comparison
Alajbegovic represents the more long-term option. Naturally left-footed, he likes to start from the right side of the attacking midfield before cutting inside, combining close control with sudden bursts of acceleration. He is a player who interprets the role with great freedom, excels at receiving the ball between the lines, and possesses the technical quality to fit Amorim's aggressive, vertical style of football, as pointed out via Milan Press. The impression is of a talent who is still developing, but the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimović publicly praised him during the 2026 FIFA World Cup is certainly an encouraging sign.
Soulé, on the other hand, would provide more immediate guarantees. The Argentine already knows Serie A, has developed greater personality over the past few seasons after a difficult start to his career, and is now available on the market after being pushed to the fringes of Gian Piero Gasperini's project at Roma. His experience in Italian football would likely shorten his adaptation period, allowing him to make an impact from the very beginning of the season, having already performed at the highest level in contrast to Alajbegovic.
