In his latest report from Milanello, Peppe Di Stefano shared some important updates on Rafael Leao’s situation during Sky Sport 24. The Sky reporter explained that over the past month, Ruben Amorim carefully assessed all the players at his disposal and, yesterday, together with Cardinale, drew up the list of players who are out of the Rossoneri’s plans: Odogu, Tomori, Fofana and Nkunku.
Rafa Leao is not on this list, but Amorim would nevertheless like the Portuguese forward to leave Milan. That is why there was an important contact yesterday between Milan director Hendrik Almstadt and the player’s entourage. The Rossoneri director reiterated the club’s desire to part ways with Leao, who himself had expressed the same wish at the beginning of the summer.
The latest development is that Milan have lowered their asking price: from the €50–60 million previously demanded to €40–45 million for Leao to leave the club. It would still be a major and far from straightforward operation, but this development means the situation is now one to monitor very closely. A renewed offer from Turkey could potentially satisfy all parties involved.
However, if no agreement can be reached, Amorim will not exclude Leao from the squad, as he has done, for example, with Nkunku. Instead, the club would work on finding a tactical role for Rafa, although it should be stressed that the coach’s main idea remains to see Milan’s No. 10 leave.
Meanwhile, the player, who suffered a thigh strain yesterday, has not been called up for tomorrow afternoon’s friendly against Manchester United in Poland.
