The AC Milan head coach, Ruben Amorim, has granted an interview to those at DAZN after the 2-0 victory at San Siro against Venezia.
Here are the Portuguese tactician's words:
"I think it’s easy to understand the match. I said before the game that it would be a difficult one because of the way they were going to play. We struggled in one-on-one situations and with some transitions, but we had more chances than them to score. That’s clear, but we never had sustained possession for long periods. We managed some things well and others less so. We have to keep working, but we won, and that’s the most important thing," as relayed via Milan News.
Saelemaekers as the attacking midfielder... Amorim commented:
"I was watching the game and I thought that we had space in that position and that we needed creativity. Initially, I thought about only replacing Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but then I thought we needed more creativity. That was the idea."
After two matches, what are the main areas you think need to be improved?
“We need to improve the way we occupy the box when we put crosses in. When we attack, our centre-backs have to understand that their role is different. They shouldn’t worry about who scores; they have to start preparing for the transitions. There is a lot to do, but it’s not easy to play in this stadium. The fans have a memory, but they are really working hard. Sometimes you don’t win in a beautiful way, but this helps build our confidence.”
How many goals have you asked Gonçalo Ramos to score?
"I don’t know, and I don’t think about his goals. Of course, he’s the striker and we paid a lot for him, but the way he works helps us enormously. Sometimes it looks like there are two players pressing, but in the end, it’s just him. Today, he missed two chances, but with the third one he didn’t think about anything, just scoring, and he did."
