Alexis Saelemaekers spoke to Sky Sport after Milan’s 2–0 defeat to Benfica. Here are his words:
First defeat of the season. It wasn’t a good Milan:
“I think we prepared well for the game. Our mentality and determination on the pitch changed. It’s up to us to calmly review the match, see with the coach what went wrong and identify our mistakes so that we don’t make them again.”
Five matches, five first halves without a goal, Saelemaekers said:
“I think that in the first half, the whole team is looking at what is happening on the pitch, and that hasn’t worked for us in the last few matches. We have no excuses. We are Milan and we have to score goals. We have to work and try not to make these mistakes again.”
You don’t always play and you’re playing in a different position. What do you need to do to convince the coach?
“Work. That’s the only word I can give you. I have to work every day to earn my place. The important thing is not my situation, but the group, the team and winning. We all have to work together, and I have to work to try to win my place back.”
