Here we go again. It has happened once more, because unfortunately stupidity knows no boundaries, neither temporal nor moral. The mural dedicated to Franco Baresi in front of Casa Milan, in Piazza Gino Valle, has been vandalised again: this time, the captain’s armband, the Milan logo on the shorts and the European Cup lifted by the former Rossoneri captain have been erased. All with black paint.
An act of vandalism targeting a work that had already been defaced on September 27 (on that occasion, red spray paint was used to cover the face of the Rossoneri legend and the iconic number 6) and which, precisely for that reason, had been recreated by its artist, Luca Rosada, known as "Lucas Street Art".
Desecration
The new artwork had been restored and unveiled on October 10, with a final result different from the first version: larger, made up of several sheets, with a smiling Baresi wearing the Rossoneri colours.
Rosada had used paste-up, a street art technique in which an image, a drawing, a photograph or an illustration is printed on paper and then pasted directly onto a wall, rather than being painted directly onto the surface.
Now there has been another act of desecration against the memory of the Rossoneri number 6.
Baresi is a symbol
Despite everything, Milan - in any case - remembers Baresi in every match with the commemorative "6 Forever" patch on the shirts of the men's and women's first teams, as well as the Under-23 and Primavera teams, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Meanwhile, during home matches at San Siro, the Rossoneri club's official stadium announcer, Gegio, always shouts Franco's name at the end of the reading of the Diavolo's lineup, almost as if he were still guiding the team from up above.
But limiting Baresi's figure solely to the Milan world would be reductive, even though he is an emblem of the club.
The captain, in fact, has always been respected by all clubs and fanbases in Italy and abroad, as demonstrated by the numerous messages and expressions of esteem in the days following his death. One more reason to remain appalled in the face of such a despicable and unmotivated act.
