For many, he is something of a predestined talent, while others would like to see him on the pitch more consistently. The fact remains that Lorenzo Torriani, tomorrow evening, will defend Milan’s goal as a starter in an official match for the first time.
Until today, his appearances have come as a substitute, all in cup competitions: his absolute debut in official matches dates back to September 17, 2024, when he replaced Maignan during Milan-Liverpool 1-2, while his second official appearance came on December 3 of the same year, when he replaced Sportiello during Milan-Sassuolo 6-1 in the Coppa Italia.
Two weeks ago, he returned to the pitch in Bournemouth, to defend the Rossoneri goal following Maignan’s sending-off (he will return against Olympiacos), conceding the goals that made it 2-0 and 3-0. Now he is ready for his first start in the Europa League and, partly due to Pietro Terracciano’s lengthy absence, this season seems destined to be the one in which he develops as the second-choice goalkeeper.
Then, in the summer, the club will have to decide what path to have its goalkeeper follow. After making his debut with the Under-21 national team in the summer, he has somewhat fallen out of the picture, given that Baldini can count on Palmisani (a protagonist of Frosinone’s superb first part of the season) Mascardi, and also Daffara.
Torriani studies and learns from Maignan, but sooner or later he will need to play regularly to see whether or not he will be a goalkeeper worthy of Milan.
Ahead of the match against Ferencvaros, Amorim is considering some solutions to give rest to those who have covered kilometres without stopping. Also under consideration is the Gila-Diawara pairing in the middle, with Filippo Terracciano and Estupinan as full-backs. And there could be another opportunity to start for Alphadjo Cisse and Francesco Camarda.
