Interviewed by Corriere della Sera, AC Milan's president, Paolo Scaroni, had these statements to say about the new stadium project:

"Why not renovate the San Siro facility? The facility is so important to us that if we hadn't had this chance we would have gone to build the stadium outside Milan. The new stadium is a vital necessity. San Siro is iconic because there are Milan and Inter. Being iconic comes from the presence of two great teams and not because it is beautiful or unique in the world. The iconicity will continue in the new stadium."

What prevents the restructuring of the San Siro?

"It would not have guaranteed neither the necessary capacity and it would drop below 60k seats, and it would not generate the needed revenues thanks to the reception areas."

In the event of a referendum on the Meazza, what will you do? Do you accept the risk of moving forward or are you looking for another solution?

"The referendum is a topic that concerns the administration. For us the speech is very simple. If Milan and Inter want to compete in Europe with teams that collect three times what we collect, the new stadium is a primary need. But at this point we no longer ask ourselves the problem because we believe that the decision has been made. In the face of a refusal, we would have reasoned about different solutions."

On the timeline:

"To be able to play the 2026-27 season in the new stadium, with construction sites open at the beginning of 2023."

Scaroni had a message to say to the committees:

"We want to give Milan the most beautiful stadium in Europe and perhaps in the world. I don't understand why it shouldn't be accepted by everyone. I am convinced that when the new stadium is seen, even nostalgics and romantics will have the opportunity to change their minds."
