In a recent interview with Il Corriere della Sera, Franco Baresi talked about the initial two decades of Fondazione Milan. The following words are Baresi's declarations:
He added:
"In its twenty years of activity, Fondazione Milan has carried out 230 projects, offering its contribution to promote access to sports for everyone and providing educational, health and social support. Since its establishment, the Foundation has donated 12 million euros and developed structured projects alongside 170 organizations in Milan, Italy, and 23 other countries around the world."
Baresi on the project he is most proud of:
"There are experiences and trips that have enriched me personally. In Lebanon, for example, where we stayed in a facility that welcomed Syrian refugees. Or in Kenya, another incredible experience, where we promoted inclusion and aggregation through sport. And then the activities of collecting and distributing food during Covid and the Legend's team (Milan Glorie)."
On Milan Glorie:
"The Rossoneri legends team that debuted in 2008 alongside Stefano Borgonovo to raise funds against ALS. Players know that carrying the Fondazione Milan brand around the world is a privilege. In Tehran, there were 70,000 spectators, in London too, in Buenos Aires 40,000. And finally, let me mention the golf tournaments organized by Daniele Massaro, always with the Fondazione Milan."
On future projects:
"We want to focus again on Milan. For more than ten years, we have created Play More in Via Moscova, a sports project designed for children with disabilities. At the request of the municipal administration, we are now working on new spaces to return to the city. Sports fields for schools, in Via Gallarate and Via dei Salici, and oratories, one in Giambellino and the other in Gratosoglio."
On the celebration of 20-year anniversary of Fondazione Milan, Baresi said:
"Everyone will be there (tonight), starting with President Paolo Scaroni and CEO Giorgio Furlani. Also there will be Paolo Maldini, Ricky Massara, coaches Pioli and Ganz, yesterday's and today's players. There will be auctions and fundraising. Among the protagonists of the evening, certainly Andriy Shevchenko, who will bring his testimony on the conflict in Ukraine. Fondazione Milan is building a sports space in Irpin, near Kiev. A special evening to celebrate the commitment of these twenty years."
