AC Milan want to sign Alvaro Morata, this is what is told by Spanish outlet Relevo. The Italian club has placed the former Chelsea and Juventus striker at the top of their list because they do believe that he is the ideal profile in terms of experience and quality to develop Stefano Pioli's style of play.
There have already been talks in recent weeks. The player's agent, has been in direct negotiations with the Rossoneri for a week now.
The striker is open to the idea of going to Milan. However, the obstacle is the salary. Morata has just signed a contract extension with Atlético for two more years, earning a net salary of 5 million euros per season - his previous contract expires in 2024. However, next year he will continue to earn what he was making in his previous agreement, which is 6.5 million euros net plus bonuses. As of today, Milan cannot meet those figures.
Besides, the club management is willing to negotiate with Atlético Madrid to pay the transfer fee as his release clause is set at around 25 million euros. The Spanish club is asking for exactly 20 million euros.
The negotiation to bring Morata to AC Milan is complicated but not impossible. The salary issue could be resolved in a very simple way, either by spreading the salary over several years (precisely four) or by trying to convince Morata to take a paycut, who is open to the idea of returning to Italy. However, also keep an eye on Saudi Arabia because after rejecting an initial offer of 120 million euros net over three years from Al Tawwon, the team coached by Steven Gerrard - Al Etiffaq - is willing to come back with another mega-offer. And if the offer becomes irresistible, the player might even consider it.
