Given the injury emergency in the defensive department, the AC Milan management had the intention of acquiring two center-backs during the January transfer window. The first one was Matteo Gabbia, who returned early from his loan at Villarreal, while there are many names linked to the Rossoneri for the second center-back spot in recent weeks. As of today, however, it is not certain that another defender will arrive unless there is an interesting opportunity.

The reason is simple: after Marco Pellegrino, who is expected to return to Stefano's list of selected players in Bologna, the other injured center-backs are progressing well towards their return to the field, as pointed out by Sky Sport Italia.

The first to return will be Malick Thiaw, who is making quick progress and should be available in the second half of February.

A few days after (around late February), Fikayo Tomori is expected to make a comeback, while the last to return will be Pierre Kalulu in March.
