Stefano Pioli's future with Milan is not really certain. The coach has the trust and confidence from the club management, as reiterated recently by CEO Giorgio Furlani. The rumours, however, continue to unfold about who could potentially take over after the former Fiorentina boss if he were to leave at the end of the current season.
According to Relevo, former Porto, Spain national team, Real Madrid Sevilla FC coach, Julen Lopetegui, is the name that is the most liked by the AC Milan management right now.
The Spanish coach is one of the most esteemed within the Rossoneri board for his methodologies, skills, and ability to develop a young and winning project. He is currently unemployed after his experience at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Lopetegui won two European titles with the Spanish under-19 and under-20 teams, a Europa League with Sevilla, a team with which he qualified for the Champions League three times in a row, and qualified the Spanish National Team for the 2018 World Cup after a streak of 20 unbeaten matches. He also briefly coached, as is known, Real Madrid.
Recently, he turned down a multimillion-dollar offer from a Saudi club Al-Ittihad, who later signed Marcelo Gallardo, and said no to some offers from the Premier League.
In recent weeks, another possibility of great prestige has arisen for him: Bayer Leverkusen, to replace Xabi Alonso, who seems poised to leave at the end of the season. The German club is pushing hard to incorporate him immediately, but there is still no green light from the Spaniard.
Julen Lopetegui is waiting, and there are those in Milan who are keeping an eye on his situation in view of the summer.
