Andrea Butti, Head of Competitions and Operations and responsible for the schedule for Serie A, spoke to QSVS to talk about the possibility that the Milan derby might be played on Monday, as requested by the Milan club.
Here are his words:
"Milan-Inter is one of the best matches, in terms of the product we want to export. This Milan - Inter we should show it to the whole planet and we should broadcast it on Sunday between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, when the Premier League broadcasts its best match. If we did this, we would be accused of favoring those who don't play in Europe on Thursdays, so Inter. The flagship match of the Italian championship, Juve - Inter, for its appeal and habit, has generated more than two million viewers and Milan - Inter could do more if we broadcast it on Sunday evening. But then we have the sporting needs of Milan, the Europa League return on Thursday with a possible extra time. Milan asked us to play on Monday".
He added:
"The 2024/25 season will start on August 17. Immediately the first 3 matchdays and then the break, after which the European competitions will start".
