The Milanese derby is always one of the most anticipated matches of the season and as usual, it will be watched millions of people around the world
There is not much of a Scudetto race, though, as Inter are in an open road to lift their 20th trophy. However, this clash is always different, with bragging rights at stake.
This morning Tuttosport writes that Stefano Pioli's future in light of the next derby, which will be played in mid-April. As mentioned, the Rossoneri can hardly do anything in terms of the title race; their only goal could be to delay Inzaghi's men's celebration as much as possible. Yet the result of the match against Inter, especially if it were to come with the possibility for the Nerazzurri to mathematically win the league, could have a significant impact on Pioli's future.
Almost as much as the Europa League. In 2023, Milan's performance against their rivals was disheartening: five defeats out of five, including a Supercup and the Champions League semifinals.
The fans are disappointed and demand redemption as a push to lead a chase in the next season. Precisely because of these defeats, in recent months, Pioli has lost a lot of confidence from the Rossoneri supporters. Therefore, a victory against Inter could revive hopes, even in terms of the Europa League, which remains the main objective.
And the Europa League is already influencing the derby. Because in these last hours, there has been much talk about the schedule and the date of the next derby. Milan has reportedly asked Serie A League for the match to be played on Monday, April 22nd.
The request is absolutely legitimate for the Rossoneri club, as well as very sensible. The Rossoneri will be playing at the Olimpico against Roma on the previous Thursday, April 18th, for the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. Considering that the match starts at 9:00 PM CET. and there is also the possibility of extra time or penalty kicks, the Rossoneri would return late to Milan with only Friday and Saturday morning to prepare for the derby against Inter.
Therefore, Milan has put forward its request and today the date should be officialized: it could be the first Milan derby in history to be played on a Monday.
