The Milan coach, Stefano Pioli, spoke to DAZN after the defeat in the derby that handed the twentieth Scudetto to Inter:
"I went into the locker room to try to lift morale, it was a heavy defeat considering everything that's behind this loss. I tried to encourage them because we have to finish the season well and on Saturday we have another important match. The lineup choices? Not only disappointed from a tactical point of view, I wanted to remove the two offensive duels and not be too high to then find spaces in the counterattack."
Pioli continues:
"In the first half, Inter hurt us on corners and counterattacks, we tried with Rafa. We wanted to defend lower to not concede what happened in the second half with the second goal. The team fought with generosity, we also lacked a bit of luck in the incidents. Inter had an exceptional season, losing only one game: for four years they've had the strongest squad in the league, we faltered in the month where we didn't win for four matches and then lacked continuity."
Pioli concludes:
"We had a very good start to the season, then after the second break, we had a very difficult month. We came from seven victories, then against Roma, the matches didn't go as we wanted despite having the best players in excellent condition. The derby came at such a moment, but I can't blame anything on my boys. Is the cycle over? Honestly, I don't know, a year ago, Inzaghi seemed to be written off, then he did everything he did. I am fine at Milan, I work well, and the team has room for improvement. Let's finish the season well, then we'll make evaluations with calmness."
