The last weekend effectively closed Milan's season: the Rossoneri already secured second place with two rounds to spare and consequently also clinched a spot in the Supercoppa Italiana final four next year, which will be contested against Inter, Juventus, and Atalanta. Therefore, the planning for the future, which had already begun in recent weeks, will intensify in the upcoming period. Pioli is destined to bid farewell, but he might not be the only one.
This morning, Tuttosport reflects on who will definitely leave Milan at the end of the season. Firstly, there's Stefano Pioli, whose departure has not yet been officialised since the club wants to let him work calmly until the last matchday. However, the feeling is that, given the solidified position, the Rossoneri coach will bid farewell on the last matchday against Salernitana at San Siro, and it is hoped that he will receive the right tribute, despite the slightly less exciting past two seasons.
There are also players whose future away from Milanello is already known. Yesterday saw the official farewell of Olivier Giroud, with a heartfelt interview on the club's official channels: Salernitana will also be his last appearance in Rossonero.
In the coming days, there could also be the official announcement of another veteran of the dressing room and a symbol of Pioli's years, like Simon Kjaer. Then there will be some players whose contracts are expiring and won't renew: Mirante is heading towards retirement, Mattia Caldara bidding farewell after an unfortunate experience.
The feeling around Casa Milan these hours, however, is that no one's place in the team is secure. Considering the imminent arrival of a new coach and the mysterious paths of the transfer market, any player could leave Milanello today.
The main 'suspects' are Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and Rafael Leao. The reason is simple: they have the highest number of suitors on paper. The two Frenchmen have contracts expiring in 2026 and are asking for an increase up to 8 million euros, even more than Leao.
The renewal of the Portuguese, for the club, was more of an exception, and for this reason, if an agreement is not reached and if an irresistible offer arrives at the same time - like Tonali's style - one of the two could say goodbye. Both are under pressure from Bayern Munich. As for Leao, there's a clause of 175 million euros, but even here, if someone were to offer just 100 million euros, it could be discussed.
Then there are the defenders: from the most expensive Fikayo Tomori to Pierre Kalulu and Malick Thiaw, according to Tuttosport, at least one of the three could leave. The same goes for the midfield, with one or two among Ismael Bennacer, Yacine Adli, and Tommaso Pobega potentially bidding farewell.
A little more doubt about Luka Jovic: Milan can renew his deal automatically before June 30, and given Olivier Giroud's departure, they might be inclined to do so.
