AC Milan completes the Italian seeding for the upcoming UEFA Champions League draw. The only team missing was the Rossoneri (which had been in limbo between the second and third pots for weeks), which was needed to finalize the positioning of Serie A teams in the pot that will determine the group stage matches.
The Rossoneri will specifically be in the second pot for the Champions League draw, following the elimination of Glasgow Rangers in the tournament's preliminary rounds. With a lower ranking than the Scottish team, Milan had to wait for the outcome of their match.
Dynamo Kyiv's progress allows the Rossoneri to join Atalanta and Juventus in the second pot, with Inter placed among the seeds (not for winning the Scudetto, but due to their ranking), and Bologna as the new addition in the fourth pot.
On Thursday, August 29, the 36 teams qualified for the new Champions League will learn their eight opponents for the first stage.
Unlike the past thirty years, the tournament is moving away from the eight-group format to a single group stage, where each team will face two opponents from each pot, making a total of eight. In this initial stage, followed by playoffs, the Round of 16, and so on, there will be no matches between teams from the same country.
