According to several sources, the FIGC, Italy’s governing body for football, seems to have approved major changes regarding Serie A Femminile and Serie B Femminile ahead of the 2022-2023 season and the arrival of professionalism.
Serie A Femminile, Italy’s top flight of football, will become a professional league starting from the 2022-2023 season and is set to reduce the number of teams to 10, dropping from the current 12 clubs. On the other hand, the number of teams in Serie B Femminile would be increased from 14 to 16.
Those changes aim to increase the competitiveness of the league and give better opportunities for the small clubs to adjust themselves, their investments and infrastructure, considering the introduction of the professionalism.
