Some of AC Milan's great moments were defined by Andriy Shevchenko who is an icon for the club. The Ukranian gave an interesting interview to the microphones of the club's official channel and said these following words:
"In my opinion, the Milan players, those who wear the Milan shirt, have a different blood for this competition. I also had some history with Dynamo Kiev, the first steps as player were there. Milan, however, was another story, a beautiful story. Two Champions League finals, especially the first one was a fantastic emotion. For me, as a young player who played in Dynamo Kiev, the Champions League was a great showcase. Through the Champions League matches I managed to conquer Europe by playing well and scoring many goals."
What approach should the team have?
"They must have a different approach, the Champions League is a competition with a great history, there is an incredible bond there with AC Milan. When you play against the greatest teams in the world, you compete against the best players in the world, it gives you a boost. For the Milan fans, the Champions League was something more, when you played at San Siro the stadium was always packed. We played beautiful matches, scoring goals in front of the Rossoneri fans is an incredible emotion."
On the fans:
"The Milan fans were waiting for these matches, they had a different approach, but so did the players... Milan had a great history and this history has passed from the old to the new generations... Surely when you wear the Milan shirt that story passes through you, it makes you more confident, it makes you stronger."
The look before the decisive penalty against Buffon:
"That look was a sure look, I was waiting for the referee's whistle, he whistled and I didn't hear. Then I was looking a little at the referee and a little at the goalkeeper, then I was very focused. The emotion was there in the thirty meters walk to the spot, so many thoughts pass you by. But when I got there I was focused, I was sure, and I was just waiting for the whistle."
Do you miss hearing the chant of the Rossoneri fans?
"I lack that energy on the pitch, energy which you get when you listen the noise of the fans. I miss the preparation before the game, the tension before the game. It is always nice to listen to the chants, there is a great desire to go back to that environment and hear that music there. Milan is a team that knows how to soldier on when the moment is difficult. They are a team that has grown a lot. In my opinion, this Champions League will help the young players to grow even more and to have more experience. This AC Milan has a lot of potential to do well."
