Italian Centre-back and team captain, Alessio Romagnoli, after around 7 years at AC Milan, can finally experience Champions League football. The player has been playing more consistently lately to replace the injured Simon Kjaer. The Rossonero number 13 has been solid at the back next to Fikayo Tomori.
As pointed out by Calciomercato.com, Romagnoli worked hard in the recent months to improve, make the coach notice him and deploy him in the starting lineup. He is now an important player again.
The former Roma defender has an expiring contract in June 2022 and there is not a sign of renewal or any progress towards it. In fact, there are no meetings scheduled between sporting director Frederic Massara, technical director Paolo Maldini and super FIFA Italian-Dutch agent Mino Raiola.
The problem, reports the source, is of economic nature. In actual fact, the renewal signed in June 2018, the former sports director Massimiliano Mirabelli agreed with the then-agent Sergio Berti for a four-year deal which sees Romagnoli earn a salary of 3.5 million euros then jumping to the current 6 million euros.
It is difficult that Milan would extend the contract at such high figures especially given that they would have to deal with Raiola who is always hard to negotiate with.
