Sandro Tonali, has held a press conference to talk to the media about the game against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League fixture 5.
The young Italian midfielder of AC Milan started off by saying the following:
"The most important matches are the ones that have to come: Madrid is the most important, we are all missing a step and we have to win. We have to play as if it were THE match, and have the only goal: to win."
On his growth:
"I think I've grown a lot, that's what I missed last year. It catches the eye this year because last year I had low performance. I don't have to get caught up in these compliments."
On Atlético Madrid:
"This can be the game that gives you the right energy and you know it can make a difference. We can play it and we know we can win."
On the first leg fixture against Atlético Madrid:
"The first leg was a bit conditioned by the expulsion. Before that, we were better. Retracing the career of the great AC Milan would be a wonderful thing to think about, but let's go one step at a time."
Tonali on the previous games in Champions League:
"All the games were important. Some moments hurt us due to concentration, like in the game against Liverpool. We need to put our soul on the pitch and play our game."
The midfielder continued:
"Many teams are smarter than us, because many of us play the Champions League for the first time. Atletico in the first leg was shrewd, that's what we lack but it's normal: the experience comes by playing. We still have to grow."
What will you wish to Sant'Ambrogio?
"In Sant'Ambrogio I can ask to take the results home. But we don't have to ask anyone for anything, just give everything for our teammates and the coach", declared Tonali.
On the preparation:
"We have studied them, and the things that worry us are not the most important. We respect the opponent but we must bring what we want on the pitch."
On playing at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium:
"Well, playing at home always helps. It's like us when we play at the San Siro, there is something extra there. I don't know if it's right to give a favourite in a Champions League match, each match is unique. Of course, playing at home helps you a lot."
