Tonight, AC Milan took on Liverpool at the San Siro in matchday 6 of the Champions League group stage. The Rossoneri were handed a loss, unfortunately, making it their fourth defeat in the European competition.
Stefano Pioli deployed the following team:
4-2-3-1: Maignan; Kalulu, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo; Tonali, Kessié, Messias, Krunic, Diaz; Ibrahimovic.
As for Jurgen Klopp, this is the lineup he chose:
4-3-3: Alisson; Williams, Phillips, Konate, Tsimikas; Morton, Oxlade Chamberlain, Minamino; Salah, Mané, Origi.
Il Diavolo team obviously has too many absences such as Rafael Leao, Ante Rebic, Simon Kjaer and Olivier Giroud. In the attacking department, Stefano Pioli has no choices on the bench to support the lone striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was very much isolated throughout the entire 90 minutes.
AC Milan did not manage to make too many threats against the Premier League side. But, the goal still arrived thanks to a corner. Fikayo Tomori was simply in the right place and time as he put the ball past the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. Later on, that proved to be just not enough. Liverpool started having more of the ball while Franck Kessié and Theo Hernandez struggled hardly to show their usual qualities.
7 minutes after the Rossoneri goal, Mohamed Salah managed to equalise when Maignan saved a shot by Minamino. The Egyptian star had an opportunity on a silver platter which he did not miss.
AC Milan was simply too slow and not good enough to dominate the midfield. Jurgen Klopp made many rotations but there was a lot of quality that was unmatched tonight. Later in the second half, Divock Origi finds the winner as he scored in the 55th minute.
The red and black faithful kept making some sort of attempts but there were not really many dangerous or remarkable chances.
The game ended 1-2 for the visitors, it is a match that ended the team's dream of passing through to the next round. They finish the game in 4th position with only 4 points. Atlético Madrid go into the next round as they were able to put 3 goals past Porto. Therefore, the Portuguese side will go to Europa League. Now, it is time to focus on the Serie A competition and aim to get into the Champions League next season with more experience and quality.
