The club technical director, Paolo Maldini, sees an opportunity in January's transfer market window as he would like to strengthen the squad of coach Stefano Pioli who is trying to always field the best possible team despite all the injuries.
The latest news come from Tuttomercatoweb.com's Enzo Bucchioni who claims that the former legendary captain of the Rossoneri wants to take advantage of the great relationship he has with the Chelsea board in order to see if he can snatch a player from them to reinforce the defensive area: we are talking about 25-year-old Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen and 28-year-old German star Antonio Rudiger. Both players have expiring contracts at the end of the season.
According to the source, Paolo Maldini has asked information from Chelsea about Rudiger and above all about Christensen. But, it is not an easy affair because the Premier League giants want to renew both the defenders' respective deals.
The journalist continued to claim that it would be easier for AC Milan to get Chelsea's 22-year-old French centre-back Malang Sarr, however. The English club would 'gladly' let him go on loan. The problem, though, is that he is not entirely convincing to the Serie A giants.
The real target is Sven Botman, 21-year-old Dutch defender of Lille. He is very strong and talented. Now, Milan are out of Champions League and have to just focus on the Serie A, and to try to win the trophy, a quality signing in the defensive line is needed to keep the squad strong and Botman can be the much needed profile that Paolo Maldini is looking for.
On the other hand, an eye is also kept on 24-year-old Serbian central defender of Fiorentina Nikola Milenkovic. However, La Viola are aiming to gain access to European football and therefore, they would not prefer to sell one of their key players in the middle of the season.
