Maurizio Ganz' squad beat AS Roma in the Italian Super Cup competition 2-1. Lindsey Thomas opened the score for the Milan Women Team with a goal in the 32nd minute after a good assist from Valentina Bergamaschi.
The captain, Bergamaschi, scored four minutes after as she took advantage of Tucceri's cross.
In the second half, Roma tried to raise the pace, but the Rossonere held up well overall. A goal was conceded in the 73rd minute. But, the red and black faithful deserved the victory and have secured their path to the final.
Coach Ganz, who led the team to victory from the bench, spoke to the media this way after the match:
" I think we have shown what we wanted on the pitch . We had a great first half, Roma came out in the second half but we put a lot of determination into it. The girls who arrived gave us a lot, congratulations to everyone. It was a good match between two very strong teams. The girls have to play for the shirt and to bring the name of Milan up . They have to play for the Rossoneri colors, not for me . Obviously I'm happy, it's been a month and a half with a lot of effort and they deserved this result."
He added:
"Piemonte and Guagni are two players we know well: Alia has great experience, Martina wants to redeem herself from difficult months in Florence. We want to do our job and win back on the pitch what we didn't do in the first part of the season."
"We trained well, we wanted to win to go to the final. There is a lot of awareness of doing well, it won't be easy because Serie A has so many great teams and today we saw two. Juventus-Sassuolo? Let's see, I will enjoy this game. I'm a little tired, my legs are shaking with emotion, the important thing is that Milan is in the final."
