AC Milan‘s team, led by head coach Stefano Pioli from the sidelines, managed to beat Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia tonight. Four goals were scored and Ciprian Tatarusanu enjoyed a clean sheet. The Rossoneri fan couldn’t ask more from their squad tonight as three points are secured. The goals of tonight were scored by Matteo Gabbia, Rafael Leao, Olivier Giroud and an own goal by Robert Ljubicic. Dinamo Zagreb were undefeated at home in all competitions since December 2021, the long streak came to an end against the Serie A champions.
The red and black faithful now sit in the second position in group E with 7 points after 5 matches. Chelsea, on the other hand, are first with 10 points. RB Salzburg, who lost against the Blues earlier this evening are third with 6 points while Dinamo Zagreb remain last with points.
AC Milan have their fates in their hands, even a draw at the San Siro against RB Salzburg would be enough for them to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League. But, knowing Pioli and his boys, they will surely play for the three points.
Olivier Giroud, who scored from a penalty kick, talked to Sky Sport Italia after the match. Here are his words:
“Great win. We have prepared this match well. We wanted to start strong with a great desire to press well and to be effective up front. We wanted to start strong with a great desire to press well and to be effective up front. We could have scored more goals, but we are very happy with this result.”
He added:
“It was the right time to play this kind of match, showing our quality and our determination to go to the second round.”
You engaged in a good duel with Dominik Livakovic, goalkeeper of Dinamo Zagreb…
“He knows me well. He played a great match. Without him we could have scored 7-8 goals… I tried to score a brace until the end, but I’m happy with the penalty.”
Giroud added:
Any advice you can give to Charles De Ketelaere?
“This type of match was very important and the young players responded well.”
