Gianluca Di Marzio, Italian journalist at Sky Sport Italia, spoke about the situation regarding the negotiation for the renewal of Rafael Leao's contract:
"I think the fine complicates Milan's plan. Willingness is a different matter, he wants to stay but needs monetize as much as possible from this situation so that he can afford to pay this 19 million euro fine owed to Sporting Lisbon, and to do so, he will try to have the highest salary possible. It is clear that being able to equalize the salaries that the Premier League offers today is practically impossible for our clubs (Italian clubs), not just Milan."
On Rafael Leao's situation, Di Marzio added:
"So Milan will have to make an important effort and Leao will also have to try to understand that staying at Milan, beyond the economic aspect, will help him grow even more and maybe go on to earn much more in the following years also in the other clubs: be patient a little longer to try to have the right timing too to go to a top Premier club."
