Paolo Scaroni, AC Milan‘s president, spoke about the Rossoneri club during his meeting with the Milan Club New York. Here are his statements reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport:
“Let’s start with the fact that reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League competition is objectively a great success, especially considering that it hadn’t happened in a long time. I consider it one of the two seasonal objectives, the other is naturally the qualification for the Champions League next year. We hope to also achieve the second one.”
On Pioli:
“We are on the right track, our confidence in Pioli is intact, we are convinced that he is the right coach to lead us to qualification in the Champions League for next season. Then everything that comes in addition is certainly welcome. I have been part of the board of directors since the ownership of Yonghong Li, and Milan has taken great strides forward in recent years”, said Scaroni, “In all respects, things are going well, and I often focus on talking about ‘money’, even though in sport, the results on the field naturally matter, but I must say that Milan’s financial statements also reassure us for the future.”
On the new stadium project, Scaroni stated:
“It is certainly an important topic because a modern and efficient stadium can increase revenue. But not only that. I am convinced that stadiums must be new, beautiful, well-lit and full because that is the only way they are good for television, and television is at the centre of our revenue. We have been fighting for years to give Milan a new stadium. Gerry Cardinale and I met with the mayor of Milan, Sala, last Thursday. We are fully exploring the hypothesis of La Maura to see if it is the right option to focus on, we will still give ourselves a couple of weeks of analysis since these things are complicated. We have to see if La Maura is really the right solution, if it is not, we will look for others maybe outside the city of Milan.”
On the AC Milan owner, Gerry Cardinale:
“He enjoys this, he has become a true fan. Then of course, he sees everything, as it should be, also from a business point of view. In the end, he invests and this money must find a fair return. It seems to me that he has really become passionate about Milan, maybe a little less when we play games like the one against Udinese before the break, but that also happens to me.”
