As reported this morning by Il Corriere dello Sport, following the agreement that seems to have been reached, the signing could come just after the return match with Inter in the Champions League's semi-final. Rafael Leao missed the first leg against the Nerazzurri against Inter due to an injury he sustained in a league match against Lazio, and Milan hopes to have him back for the return match on Tuesday, in which they are called to overturn the 2-0 score. The dream scenario would be Leao returning to the field and leading a comeback, followed by the signing of the new contract the next day.
The agreement on the figures had essentially already been reached some time ago: Leao will receive 6.5 million euros net per season; bonuses included, until June 2028. The new development is that the buyout clause will also be maintained and raised compared to Rafa's current contract: 170 million euros. The real issue that needed to be resolved in this long negotiation was the dispute between Lille and Sporting, which has finally been settled: the French club will pay 20 million euros to the Portuguese club, closing the matter once and for all.
Additionally, the French club has secured the right to 15% of any future sale of their former player by AC Milan. These are the numbers that have finally given a decisive turn to the Leao negotiation, who, in the meantime, trained separately on the field yesterday and is focusing only on one thing: the derby on Tuesday.
