Alexis Saelemaekers has joined Bologna on loan with an option to buy. But how will this operation impact Milan's finances?
The agreement for the loan has been reached at a base amount of 1 million euros, while an additional 12 million euros will be paid in case of activation of the buy-option. The Rossoneri club will record this amount as revenue for the 2023/24 season, but will continue to carry the player's amortisation.
According to the latest available financial statement (related to the 2021/22 season), Saelemaekers has a cost of 7.65 million euros. His net value as of June 30, 2022, was approximately 5.16 million euros. With his contract renewed with Milan until 2026, Saelemaekers' value on the balance sheet should have decreased to about 3.87 million euros. For this reason, the amortization expense in 2023/24 will be approximately 1.29 million euros.
AC Milan, however, will no longer bear his salary, reportedly around 1.31 million euros gross. Thus, Saelemaekers' cost to Milan was about 2.6 million in 2022/23, but between the absence of salary and the loan revenue, it will decrease to around 290,000 euros in 2023/24, resulting in a positive impact on the Rossoneri's accounts of 2.31 million euros, as per Calcio e Finanza.
Saelemaekers' Financial Impact - The Capital Gain Hypothesis...
At the end of the 2023/24 season, if Bologna management does decide to sign Saelemaekers on a permanent basis, Milan could potentially register a capital gain. By June 30, 2024, the player's net value would have decreased to 2.58 million euros, and if the 12 million euros for the buy-option were confirmed, the capital gain would be approximately 9.42 million euros.
