Roberto Donadoni, interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, revealed that he could have taken over as coach of AC Milan in 2019 after Giampaolo's sacking:
"Boban called me, but I was at Shenzhen, and I didn't feel right leaving midway. I'm a man of my word. In '96, my contract with Milan was ending: they offered me one year, but I asked for two and reached an agreement with the New York Metrostars. I had a good European Championship, and Galliani called me: 'We offer you another two years.' I went to the USA."
Donadoni continued:
" In 2017, Tavecchio called me for the post-Ventura era. I was in the office with Fenucci and Bigon, and I put him on speakerphone: 'Mr. President, thank you, but I have a commitment with Bologna, and I want to honor it'."
