As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, agents' earnings continue to grow. Pending the full implementation of the new regulations on October 1st, it remains to be seen if this trend will be curbed.
The latest transfer market was the pinnacle for intermediaries. The FIFA report published yesterday provides an overview of the money flowing outside the football system. This is a partial figure as some markets are still open. Agents received €651 million in 1,985 transactions that led to a total movement of €6.87 billion among clubs worldwide. Such a large share (9.5% of the total) had never before been allocated to agents.
Compared to the summer session of 2022, when agents received €461 million, there has been an increase of almost €200 million, or +41.2%. In 2013, intermediaries pocketed 5.8% of the money involved, while in 2023, it's nearly 10%. Of the total, €178.9 million was paid by the teams that sold players, and €472.1 million came from those who purchased them.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, in the summer window of 2023, England leads the charts in terms of spending on transfers (€1.85 billion), the number of incoming (449) and outgoing (514) transactions. Meanwhile, Germany takes the top spot in terms of revenue from player sales abroad, just over one billion euros. However, attention should be paid to Saudi Arabia, which ranks second in spending with a total of €817.8 million, ahead of France (€803.2 million), Germany (€712.3 million), Italy (€664.2 million), and Spain (€378.9 million).
