Last summer, Rafa Leao's signed the most important contract: it didn't satisfy just one fan but all Milan supporters. In early June, he signed the contract extension until 2028: a negotiation set up in the previous management and concluded with the intervention of CEO Furlani. The new Milan intends to build on its pillars, and Rafa is one of the most stable players.
After Leao, it's Maignan's turn:
Mike Maignan, the French goalkeeper, is the foundation of it all: negotiations for renewal have started to tie him to the club even longer. Mike's contract expires in 2026, so there's no rush. But, Milan know that they must avoid the situations which happened with players who left for free in the past like Hakan Calhanoglu, Franck Kessié and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Mike Maignan has an annual salary of 3.2 million euros: he's not on the podium of the highest-paid Rossoneri. Leao, Giroud, and Theo are ahead of him. The new contract should include an adjustment of his salary that would place him in the top three positions.
Would it be advisable to include a release clause? It's not certain. What is certain is that Mike's value has grown exponentially: in the summer of 2021, he was paid 13 million plus 2 in bonuses to Lille. Today, the price of his contract has at least quintupled. Maignan is a leader in the locker room, a champion between the posts, and a skilled playmaker: he sets up the play to launch Leao on the counterattack. Or he directs his teammates when there are free kicks to be taken towards the other goal, as per Gazzetta dello Sport.
The same expiration date is set on Hernandez's contract: however, his agreement has already been reviewed over the years, while Mike's is still at the 2021 figures. As for his compatriot, Olivier Giroud, In June, he will be a free agent. But, the club will soon work to renew his deal by one more year.
