AC Milan were close to signing Mehdi Taremi last summer. The Iranian forward who is 31 years old was very much wanted by Stefano Pioli and the management. However, the matter did not unfold how it was supposed to for the Rossoneri due to some issues with the intermediaries who changed the parameters of the deal in the last few steps. (Read details here).
These days, there are reports that Inter are also trying to sign the former Rio Ave centre-forward to reinforce the attack and perhaps a January move is not to be excluded.
In fact, Iran's assistant national team coach, Rahman Rezaei (former defender for Perugia, Messina, and Livorno), confirmed to Sportitalia by saying these words:
"In August, he was ready to go to Milan. I talked to him about his future, it's time for him to leave Porto. He feels ready to take a step up in quality to a big team, even in January if there is a chance. I told him about the market rumours regarding Inter, and he made it clear to me that he's focused on giving his best in these months and then leaving. He really likes the idea of Inter, he was very happy with the news. Inter is at the top of the table, he would love to join such a strong team. Then there will surely be other clubs as well."
Taremi wants to join Lautaro Martinez at Inter...
"When a Champions League finalist is interested in you, all the others take notice and wonder why they want you. He could do very well alongside Lautaro Martinez, a very strong forward. Both know how to hold the ball and bring the team forward, I can see Taremi playing well around him. In the end, it will be Inzaghi's decision."
This season, Taremi has only been able to score 2 goals and register 3 asissts to his name after 12 matches. The right-footed player's contract with Porto runs until the summer of 2024.
