The Federal Prosecutor's Office has reached an agreement (pursuant to Article 126 of the Sports Code) with the footballer Sandro Tonali, as a result of which he will be sanctioned with a suspension of 18 months, 8 of which will be converted into alternative measures, and a fine of 20,000 euros, for violating Article 24 of the Sports Code, which prohibits betting on football events organized by FIGC, UEFA, and FIFA.
Regarding the alternative measures, Tonali will have to participate in a therapeutic program lasting a minimum of 8 months and attend a series of at least 16 public meetings, to be held in Italy over the course of 8 months, at Amateur Sports Associations, Federal Territorial Centers, Centers for recovery from gambling addiction, and in any case, according to the indications and program proposed by FIGC.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office will monitor compliance with the indicated measures, and in case of violations, will take appropriate measures within its competence, under the Sports Code, including the termination of the agreement and continuation of the disciplinary proceedings before the judicial bodies of sports justice.
