The Dutch national team coach Ronald Koeman gave statements at the end of the Netherlands-Ireland match, which ended 1-0 in favour of 'Oranje' thanks to Weghorst's goal. Tijjani Reijnders played the full 90 minutes before being substituted in injury time. Here are the coach's words about the AC Milan midfielder, who became a starter in the national team.
"Why Reijnders? Because of the good games he has played there lately. And he can play in different positions in midfield. At the moment, he is one of the eleven starters. With the elements playing in front, both Cody (Gakpo) and Xavi (Simons) who move forward or sideways, it's necessary for one of the two midfielders to go behind Weghorst."
Koeman continued:
"Then the other needs to be more controlled. Jerdy (Schouten) might be a bit more controlled than Tijjani, but the opposite is also allowed."
