Pioli: “We weren’t prepared and clever enough to handle Atalanta’s runs”

The challenge between Gasperini's Atalanta and Stefano Pioli's AC Milan has ended with the hosts winning 3-2.

The Rossoneri coach spoke to Sky Sport Italia and discussed his team's performance:

"When we were level in numbers, it seemed like we had more. We came back twice in the score sheet. The expulsion created difficulties for us, but we need to be more clear-headed. We made mistakes that cost us dearly. Conceding 3 goals means we didn't work well defensively. We weren't prepared and clever enough to handle Atalanta's players' runs. We played a decent game with intensity: we should've secured a positive result.'

Pioli then continued:

'We had absences, but we played the game, especially in the first half, but we didn't capitalize. In the second half, however, we made some naive mistakes that we can't afford.'

Pioli added:

"If the game had ended 2-2, I believe we would've spoken about many positive aspects. We wanted a different result and consistency. Failing to achieve that needs to be deeply evaluated by us. We were in the game, but our opponents were better inside the penalty area."

Jovic with Giroud?

"They can play together, although we might need to modify the midfield for that. We'll see. Now, focus on Europe. Leao? He should be ready to play, but the upcoming days will be important."
