In this morning's print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport's newspaper, there is a focus on the impact of Milan's substitutes in the championship. In the first fifteen Serie A games, the Rossoneri have celebrated a goal scored by a player coming off the bench only three times: Okafor against Lazio, Pulisic against Genoa, and Jovic against Atalanta. The action leading to the goal, however, against Newcastle gives hope (From Jovic passing to Okafor and to Chukwueze)
Just 68 seconds after their entry onto the field on Wednesday in England, Okafor and Chukwueze immediately made an impact. Also among them was Luka Jovic, who had entered a few minutes earlier.
The Swiss player took the ball just outside the penalty area, split Newcastle in two with his speed, exchanged passes with the Serbian before serving the Nigerian, who added the finishing touch with a great left-footed shot.
This is an action that Milan fans have longed for in these first months of the season and now hope to see more often throughout the season. The alternatives, also due to injuries, have been one of the problems for the Devil (Milan) in this first half of the season.
Luka Jovic now seems more confident in his abilities, with the December cold seemingly awakening him; Samuel Chukwueze has scored two consecutive goals in Europe and the club and fans now expect him to try to do the same in the league. As for Noah Okafor, who had started well, was stopped by a tricky muscle but has already made a powerful comeback.
AC Milan... A new chance tomorrow:
Tomorrow, Milan seeks to follow up their Champions League victory in Serie A, where the performance is more fluctuating than ever. At the San Siro, Monza arrives, occupying the ninth position in the standings and not an easy opponent for anyone.
New responses are expected from the three new acquisitions, with some of them possibly starting from the first minute. Particularly, Chukwueze could have a chance to be impactful in the league, taking advantage of Pulisic's fatigue, who has played a lot in recent weeks (though consistently well) and might need to catch his breath.
It's not excluded that Jovic could challenge Olivier Giroud's role, while Okafor will diligently remain behind Leao but ready to enter and split the game open, as he did on Wednesday in England.
