Giuseppe Marotta, Inter's executive, spoke to reporters regarding alleged incidents favouring the Nerazzurri:
"The controversies – or rather, the criticisms – must involve Italian football, and we must accept them. The VAR has been called upon by everyone. It wasn't taken as a tool to eradicate referee errors but to reduce them. Then, each club must weigh the pros and cons at the end of the season. Subjectivity exists, and so do mistakes. I believe that, in the end, the best team will win the championship. Favoritism? I don't want to engage in controversies by commenting on these misleading statements."
A serious accusation: some say Inter is favoured by referees because they have a great director...
"Far from thinking that Inter is influenced by favouritism, I send these statements back to the sender. The work is done by a team backed by a strong organisation. We are rightfully at the top: being winter champions, however, is like Pyrrhic victory. What will matter is being at the top in May. We are rightfully so now. It seems to me that there were also other refereeing errors for other teams yesterday."
Finally, Marotta concluded:
"I've been in football for over 40 years, and every year there's talk of favors for this or that club. There's controversy even with VAR. It's part of the game. Today, we are the hare, and the hare must be able to dodge the shots of the hunters."
