AC Milan have been making moves for months to secure the arrival of Matija Popovic, a talented Serbian attacking midfielder and forward whose contract with Partizan Belgrade expired in December 31, 2023.
The player who turned 18 a few days ago, despite attempts from the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona, chose to join the Rossoneri. However, it seems that a deal is unlikely given the current conditions. As per the latest updates, Milan have not been able to find an agreement on the commission fees demanded by the youngster's agents.
The financial demands were deemed highly excessive by the Rossoneri club management.
Enrico Curro commented on the situation in the pages of La Repubblica and said the following:
"The much-anticipated Popovic deal has vanished due to the excessive demands of the agents of the young Serbian forward (it had already happened in the summer with (Mehdi) Taremi). Some questions about AC Milan's market strategies become legitimate, as the jeers from the Curva Sud justify them."
