Carlo Laudisa, a journalist at Gazzetta dello Sport, provided an update on AC Milan's winter transfer market, specifically discussing the Rossoneri's interest in 35-year-old midfielder Nemanja Matic and the young prospect who recently turned 18, Matija Popovic situation.
Here's what he said:
"Suddenly, Milan is on Matic, a midfielder who needs no introduction; he has a history of many titles, with his latest experience at Roma. Now he is with Rennes and wants a change. There's a particular aspect: despite having previously played in the Italian league, returning from a foreign club renews his non-EU player status."
Laudisa on Matija Popovic:
"And this explains why Milan has given up on young Popovic, whose contract with Partizan was expiring. He was almost certainly a Rossonero, but the deal fell through at the last moment. The negotiation for Matic shows that they want to keep that spot open, shifting towards an experienced player for Pioli instead of a young prospect. Even Milan, which heavily focuses on youth, evidently considers having more experience in the midfield, especially with Krunic likely to leave. Pioli needs strong shoulders in the middle."
