Zvonimir Boban has resigned from UEFA. He is no longer the Head of Football, and his farewell a few days before the 48th Congress, scheduled for February 8 in Paris, is already sparking discussions because it is caused by Aleksander Ceferin, as relayed from Milan News.
The former midfielder of Milan and the Croatian national team, in office since 2021 after previously working with Gianni Infantino at FIFA, has criticized the UEFA president because he would like to vote on an amendment that would allow him to run for a new term (according to current regulations, it should have been the last one): "Even though I have expressed my total disapproval, the UEFA president believes that there are no legal obstacles to the changes he proposes, nor any ethical or moral issues, and he wants to carry out his plan to promote his personal aspirations," he told L'Equipe.
"Ironically, he was the one who introduced and embodied the reforms in 2017 to avoid this possibility. These rules were introduced precisely to protect UEFA from mismanagement and the old system. For him to turn his back on these values is beyond comprehension. Being complicit in all this would go against all the principles and values that I have always defended. I don't want to be a hero, especially because I'm not the only one who thinks this way, but with infinite regret and a heavy heart, I realize that I have no choice but to leave UEFA."
