Spoken at the commemoration of Arpad Weisz at the Dall'Ara stadium, as part of the celebrations for the Memorial Day, Bologna's CEO Claudio Fenucci revisited the refereeing incidents in the match against Milan:
"First of all, let me say in this context that I believe the communication power of sports should be used for social purposes, for all the projects of inclusion, zero tolerance: what happened yesterday, in agreement with Milan, at the San Siro stadium was a very beautiful moment, with people turning on all the lights to say no to any form of racism."
"We had a beautiful performance, we are very happy. The upcoming matches will help us try to chase this great dream of an important final result. That penalty and Thiago's expulsion? The coach can influence what he controls. Recently, we had a meeting in the league about the refereeing atmosphere that has developed, and we decided to keep the tone low: I have already said at the beginning of the season on the occasion of a very important incident (Juventus-Bologna, the penalty later defined as clear but not awarded to Ndoye,) that when we intervene on referees, it is to sensitize the system to improve: objectivity between the referee and VAR must be sought. We regret that of the eight incidents that the refereeing system has recognised as serious errors, two have been against Bologna."
Bologna's CEO continue:d
"After the game, I spoke with referee Massa, and he believed that his decision was correct: we respect it, but I think it was very doubtful (the first penalty). Zero errors are impossible, but it is also our duty to engage with the Federation to improve the system. However, serious errors, especially those involving the referee-VAR assessment, must be reduced to a minimum and, if possible, even avoided."
