As La Gazzetta dello Sport explains this morning, in these weeks the Milan club directors have tried to negotiate with various defenders, but for various reasons, all these operations have not materialized: the first major target was Jakub Kiwior, but Arsenal never opened up to a loan move.
Then at the top of Milan's list was Clément Lenglet, but reaching an agreement would have been complicated since the Frenchman is currently on loan from Barcelona to Aston Villa. There was also talk for days about the option of Lilian Brassier, who eagerly awaited a call from the Rossoneri management, but Brest's demand for 12-15 million euros was always considered too high by the AC Milan club directors.
All of these are now closed tracks, while another attempt will be made in the coming hours for Merih Demiral, a defender from Saudi club Al-Ahli. However, this is also a very complicated deal that is unlikely to go through because the Arab club does not agree to a loan, which is the formula requested by Milan.
And so, barring sensational twists, the Rossoneri defense will remain as it is until the end of the season, with the hope of recovering injured players Malick Thiaw, Fikayo Tomori, and Pierre Kalulu as soon as possible.
