Napoli's president Aurelio De Laurentiis commented on the words of the president of the Football League Lorenzo Casini about the independence of the League from the FIGC following the English Premier League model. Here are his words, as relayed by ANSA:
"I've been advocating for ideas like these for at least ten years. There must be a time when something is created in Europe and it must last indefinitely. England is the only league where football is watched worldwide, it's the only country that allows children and families to happily go to stadiums, while here in Italy they don't want to hear about changes in stadium access because fans are useful to politicians and so the stadiums are no longer free ground."
However, De Laurentiis emphasizes that the Serie A League "unfortunately is non-existent," he said:
"We are not structured like a business association, we are not the real confederation of football. Sometimes in meetings, I hear clubs that want Serie A to have 18 teams: to them I say, for me, 20 or 16 teams are fine but we need to understand which teams are there, because the table is always divided into two parts, on one side those fighting to go to Europe and on the other those fighting not to be relegated."
