AC Milan's defence is suffering so much this season. In fact, even in the last two matches against Monza and Rennes, the team conceded 7 goals. It is a real problem which hinders the progress of the squad. But, Stefano Pioli is hoping that the return of the injured players in the defensive department could help get through this difficult period.
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the French center-back, Pierre Kalulu, and the Italian full-back, Davide Calabria, will be the first to return and, barring surprises, should be among the squad for tomorrow night's home game against Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta squad.
AC Milan's Kalulu has been absent for several months and his recovery is crucial for the coach's plans and that is because he can play both as a centre-back and also as a right-back.
The former Lyon player suffered a serious injury on October 29 during Napoli-Milan, when he sustained a tendon injury and underwent surgery a few days later. Now, after four long months, he is ready to return.
Against Atalanta, at least Davide Calabria will also be seen on the bench, having been out due to a muscular problem suffered during Milan-Napoli two weeks ago.
On the other hand, though, it will indeed take a few more days for Fikayo Tomori, who should be available for the trip to Rome against Lazio next Friday. The Englishman, and former Chelsea player, has not played since December 22 when he was injured against Salernitana. With these three returns, Pioli certainly hopes to partially stem the emergency in defence and put an end to the issue of conceding too many goals.
