Eyes were on the VAR this morning after last night's draw between Milan and Atalanta, which was also decided by a very generous penalty awarded to the Bergamaschi by the VAR.
At least that's what Matteo Dalla Vite, a VAR analyst for La Gazzetta dello Sport, thinks.
This morning, he analysed the much-discussed incident, which was also commented on by Stefano Pioli after the match.
The headline of the analysis on the VAR reads:
"Penalty for Atalanta. The touch is light, a debatable decision."
"The issue of the penalty for Atalanta is causing debate: in the 39th minute, on a corner kick, Emil Holm gets ahead of Olivier Giroud, who touches him on the chest with his leg. Referee Daniele Orsato lets play continue, but the VAR calls him to the monitor: the referee then awards the penalty despite strong doubts about the intensity of the contact."
Crazy fake response by player who had mild contact to upper body but dramatically held face as if he got kicked in face. As far as in concerned the player shouldn’t have been rewarded a PK but given a yellow for faking an injury or fall.
