AC Milan are currently sitting in second position in the Serie A s tandings. Their points average in 2024? Only second to Inter. However, skepticism towards Pioli remains. According to Milan News, there are three reasons behind that.
The first reason is the lack of convincing play. Milan have become boring when watching them play, as per the Italian website. The Rossoneri team sparks occasionally, relying heavily on individual plays, and for long stretches (within the same match) fails to excite.
Fans go to the stadium to be entertained, to see a spectacle, but in recent months, it has rarely happened. Some exceptions like PSG or Atalanta, then the rest is flat, slow, and measured. From a tactical point of view, Pioli's team often concedes a lot to the opponent and frequently relies on the champions' plays. Milan often saves itself because it has an excellent squad, with strong individualities, otherwise, it would have even fewer points.
The second reason is injuries. What's the point of buying players if they then get injured at some point during the season? It's been three years now, happening between October and November, only to reverse course from January-February onwards. In those two months, many points are lost, and in the end, Milan pays dearly. The club has an excellent squad but it hasn't been utilised to reach it's full potential.
The third reason behind the fans' discontent with Pioli's Rossoneri team is the 5 derby losses to Inter, the abnormal gap from the league leader, and the exits from the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.
