Paolo Scaroni, the Rossoneri president, speaking from the stage of the event 'Il Foglio a San Siro', made the following statements:
On the new stadium:
"San Siro is now owned by Milan and Inter, and this is a fundamental starting point. We have taken an essential step. Where are we at? Everything is proceeding in a reasonable and fairly efficient way. I hope to be able to present the project for the new stadium soon. It is a very important project for our city. We are close to making a decision, and then we will present the project to the public. We must make this choice quickly. All of this will happen before the summer," as relayed via Milan News today.
On building the stadium with Inter:
"Milan and Inter are very similar; it’s not the case that the stadium I want is not what Marotta wants. We have the same needs. In other cities this situation doesn’t exist. This is a great advantage for us, since we have the same needs."
On Malagò:
"He has devoted his life to sport and has done an excellent job as president of CONI. I was in Lausanne when we were awarded the Winter Olympic Games, without him we wouldn’t have got them, I am certain of that. Having a man of sport leading this cultural change that we also need to make is a wise choice. I voted for him with absolute conviction."
On foreign ownership:
"My biggest challenge as president of Milan is translating Italy to an American owner who understands sport. It’s not easy to explain, for example, why it takes us six years to build a stadium, or to explain our bureaucratic procedures, the rules for electing the president of the FIGC. Explaining certain mechanisms to a foreigner is not simple: the percentage of votes, the weight of votes, and so on. This is the thankless task that falls to those of us who interact with the shareholder. I have a bigger problem than Marotta, namely that my shareholder is a sports expert and a great enthusiast.”
On Milan’s current situation:
"It hasn’t been an easy week, but I remain confident that we will achieve the only objective we have had from day one (the Champions League). I like the league title very much; I’m very attached to the Sassuolo stadium where we won our last title (with the Neroverdi CEO Carnevali sitting next to him). I have never been under any illusions, doing a bit of maths and also seeing how the teams were playing. The Champions League is an extremely important objective, including the fact that Milan cannot fail to be part of the international stage."
