Mike Maignan is among the best goalkeepers in the world and the AC Milan club value his skills on the pitch as a shotstopper, but also as a leader. That is why they are not willing to part ways with him and would like to extend his contract.
This morning, the Corriere dello Sport newspaper tries to take stock of the situation. Maignan has a contract until 2026, and recent history teaches us that it's always good to act in advance to extend a top player's deal. In the coming weeks, meetings and talks are expected to lay the groundwork for a new agreement that could tie Maignan to Milan for another three years. Speaking of figures, CorSport starts from the current salary of 2.8 million euros per year and reveals that the club's offer will be around 4.5 million euros plus bonuses. However, the goalkeeper is asking for a top salary, like Leao: 6 million euros. The talks will serve precisely to come to an agreement in the coming weeks.
The search for Maignan's contract renewal is not only aimed at fortifying the player but also at protecting themselves from any attempts in the upcoming transfer windows. Milan obviously wants to keep the goalkeeper, but the sale of Tonali last season showed how all players, potentially and with the right offer, can leave. With a contract renewal, his value would be protected, which according to rumours it is set at 100 million euros at least.
Maignan is certainly liked by Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern, but one should never rule out the Premier League from the equation. However you look at it, it will be a decisive summer for the French goalkeeper. And it will also be for his friend Olivier Giroud, from whom Milan expects a definitive decision on his choice in the near future: America is calling, but the Rossoneri club would be ready to renew the number 9 for another year, more or less at the same figures. It will all depend on what he wants to do, with his family.
